Why Veterinary Review Matters

Supplement marketing moves faster than the evidence behind it. Every day, dog owners are asked to choose between dozens of products making confident health claims, most of which have never been independently evaluated. The Veterinarian’s Bag exists to slow that process down and apply the same standard of scrutiny that governs peer-reviewed veterinary medicine.

Every article we publish is reviewed by a licensed veterinarian before it reaches you. This is not a formality. Our reviewers check clinical claims against primary literature, flag overstated conclusions, and require that uncertainty be stated plainly when the evidence does not support a firm answer.

Our Review Process

Each piece of content moves through a structured, multi-stage review:

• Drafting against sources. Writers build every claim on a cited, peer-reviewed reference. Uncited assertions are not permitted to advance.
• Clinical review. A licensed veterinarian reads the draft for medical accuracy, appropriate dosing context, contraindications, and whether the strength of the evidence matches the strength of the language used.
• Evidence verification. The reviewer confirms that each cited study actually supports the claim attached to it, and that no relevant contrary evidence has been omitted.
• Final sign-off. Content is approved, returned for revision, or rejected. Only approved content is published, and every approved article carries a review date.

When new evidence emerges that materially changes a conclusion, the article is re-reviewed and updated. We treat published content as a living document, not a one-time deliverable.

Credentials We Require

We hold our reviewers to a defined standard. To review clinical content for The Veterinarian’s Bag, a reviewer must meet all of the following:

• A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or an equivalent veterinary qualification recognized in their jurisdiction.
• An active, unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine.
• Demonstrated familiarity with the subject area under review, whether through clinical practice, research, or board certification.
• A signed commitment to our independence policy, which prohibits reviewers from holding a financial interest in any product we evaluate.

Board-certified specialists (DACVIM, DACVN, and equivalent) are prioritized for content in their specialty areas.

How We Select Reviewers

Reviewers are recruited for subject-matter fit, not volume. We match each article to a reviewer whose clinical or research background aligns with its topic, and we rotate assignments to prevent any single reviewer from becoming the sole authority across the site. Where a topic spans disciplines, more than one reviewer may contribute. Reviewers are compensated for their time and are never compensated based on the conclusions an article reaches.

Current Team

We are actively recruiting licensed veterinarians and board-certified specialists to our review board. Until individual reviewers are formally onboarded and their credentials verified, content is reviewed under the direction of our editorial staff.

Reviewed by: The Veterinarian’s Bag Editorial Team. Individual reviewer names and credentials will be listed on each article as our veterinary review board is finalized.
