Editorial Policy
This document describes how The Veterinarian’s Bag produces, reviews, and maintains its content. We publish it because an evidence-based publication should be able to show its work — including the process behind it.
How Content Is Produced
Every article begins with a defined question: Does this ingredient have clinical support? Does this claim hold up? What does the dosing literature actually say? We then gather the relevant primary sources — peer-reviewed studies, regulatory guidance, pharmacopeial references, and manufacturer documentation — before a word is drafted.
We prioritize, in order:
- Peer-reviewed studies in indexed journals, with preference for controlled trials in the target species
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
- Regulatory and professional body guidance (for example, FDA, AAFCO, and veterinary college positions)
- Manufacturer data, treated as claims to be verified rather than as evidence
Fact-Checking and Review
No clinical claim is published without verification. Before publication, each article is reviewed by an editor, and any statement of clinical effect is checked by a team member with veterinary training. Citations are confirmed against the original source, dosing figures are cross-checked, and the strength of the evidence is characterized accurately — we distinguish clearly between established findings, preliminary data, and absence of data.
Use of AI Tools
We may use AI tools to assist with drafting, summarization, and formatting. AI output is never published unreviewed. Every AI-assisted draft passes through the same human editorial and veterinary review process as any other content, and the named editorial team remains fully responsible for the accuracy of what we publish.
Updates and Re-Review
Veterinary evidence evolves. We review high-traffic articles on a regular cycle and update them when new evidence, new regulatory guidance, or new product formulations warrant it. When we update an article, we note the date of the most recent review. Material corrections are handled under our Corrections Policy and are labeled as such.
Separation of Editorial and Advertising
Our editorial team operates independently of our advertising and affiliate arrangements. Advertisers and affiliate partners do not see articles before publication, do not influence coverage decisions, and cannot purchase favorable conclusions. Our compensation model is described in our Disclosure; it is designed to fund the work, not to direct it.
Sourcing Standards
We cite our sources so that readers — including clinicians — can verify them. Where evidence is contested or limited, we present the limitations honestly rather than overstating certainty. We do not rely on a single study to establish a clinical conclusion, and we flag when findings in animals cannot be assumed to transfer from human or in-vitro research.
Accountability
We stand behind our work. If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. Readers, clinicians, and the companies we cover may request corrections through the process described in our Corrections Policy, and may reach the editorial team at hello@theveterinariansbag.com.
