About The Veterinarian’s Bag
The Veterinarian’s Bag is an independent veterinary evidence publication. We examine the claims behind companion animal health products — supplements, probiotics, joint formulas, calming aids, dental products, and more — and hold them up against what the peer-reviewed literature actually supports.
The name comes from an old tradition: the bag a veterinarian carried on farm calls, containing everything needed to make a sound judgment at the point of care. That is the standard we apply to our work. We bring the evidence to the table, weigh it carefully, and tell you precisely what it can and cannot support.
Our Mission
Much of the pet health content published online is written to sell something. Our mission is different: to give dog owners, breeders, and veterinary professionals a source of evidence-based analysis that is not affiliated with any manufacturer, retailer, or brand.
Specifically, we exist to:
- Evaluate supplement and health product claims against published clinical research
- Explain study design, dosing, and outcome measures in plain, precise language
- Identify where the evidence is strong, where it is preliminary, and where it does not exist
- Provide veterinary professionals with accurate summaries they can confidently share with clients
What You Will Find Here
Our content falls into three categories:
- Evidence reviews — structured evaluations of specific ingredients, strains, or product categories, with citations to primary literature.
- Claim analyses — examinations of specific marketing claims, assessed against regulatory standards and published data.
- Explainers — clear background on physiology, microbiology, and pharmacology relevant to companion animal health.

The Veterinarian’s Bag is an independent publication. We accept no funding from pet product manufacturers, and our editorial team does not hold financial interests in any brand we cover. Where we link to products, those links may generate a small commission at no cost to you. This is disclosed on every page where it applies, and it never influences our analysis. How We Are Funded
This publication is supported by display advertising and, on some pages, affiliate commissions. Advertising is sold on the condition that it never touches editorial decisions. Every clinical claim published on this site is reviewed by a team member with veterinary training before publication. We do not publish ghost-written brand content, and we do not allow manufacturers to review articles before they go live.
